Level 4 training

Cardiac rehabilitiation (Phase IV)

My training and qualifications are recognised by the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention & Rehabilitation. These community classes are supported by the local NHS Phase III team, who refer suitable clients. If you have not attended a Phase III class, but have Coronary Heart Disease, referrals are via your local Deeside surgery - inclusion criteria are: heart attack, bypass surgery, stents, valve replacements, stable heart failure, pacemaker, stable angina & risk factors for CHD, such as high blood pressure.

Falls prevention

My training and qualifications are endorsed by Laterlife Training. This exercise class covers a wide variety of medical problems which increase the risk of trips & falls: Parkinson’s, Dementia, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Depression, Mild stroke, Diabetes, CHD & COPD. Classes include either chair-based or standing exercises to improve balance, strength & aerobic endurance. The main aim of these sessions is to teach individuals how to get up from the floor safely & independently, following a fall.

Exercise after stroke

Again, my training and qualifications are via Laterlife Training and REP's. This class , or one-to-one home exercise programming, is suitable for individuals who have had a stroke, but are ambulatory. Sessions are aimed at improving walking efficiency, neuro-muscular feedback, posture and activities of daily living. It also addresses cardiovascular fitness via the use of static bikes. These work stations are evidence-based and trialled at Edinburgh Queen Margaret University as part of the STARTER Trial (E. Mead et al 1996)

Home exercise programming

If, for whatever reason, you can't attend one of the exercise classes, I offer a home visit for one-to-one tuition, on any of the three Level 4 qualifications. For example, I have helped clients with the following medical conditions: CHD, Stroke, Parkinson's disease, Dementia, Frequent fallers, Osteoporosis and Arthritis. These sessions are individually programmed so that the optimum benefits can be gained from each client. My aim is to continue the excellent work of the Physio's and bridge the gap between hospital & home physio sessions and exercise classes in the community.
